Lasers
The Laser was on the cutting edge of the sailing boom in the 1970s. Designed by Canadian Bruce Kirby, this dinghy is light enough to be carried on the roof rack, and simple enough for a beginner. This is not to say that the Laser is not a challenging boat to sail. Many of the world's top Olympic sailors perfected their racing skills sailing Lasers.
The philosophy behind the making of the Laser: the sailor wins the race, not the boat. Today, the philosophy is still strongly observed by creating each Laser according to a very strict set of class rules. This helps guarantee that it is the sailor, not the boat and equipment winning the race.
